We operate as a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), Human Resource Outsourcing (HRO) provider, and licensed Health Insurance Agency. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly skilled, strategic Payroll Manager to lead and elevate our payroll operations.

Position Summary

The Payroll Manager is a senior-level, highly technical leader responsible for overseeing all payroll operations across a multi-client PEO environment. This role requires deep expertise in payroll compliance, system configuration, and process optimization, with a strong focus on HRIS administration and integrations.

This individual will lead the payroll team, ensure operational excellence, and serve as a key partner across departments to drive efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities: 

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Payroll Specialists, ensuring high performance and accountability
  • Oversee workload distribution, training, and ongoing professional development
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to drive team efficiency and service quality

Payroll Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee end-to-end processing of multi-client, multi-state payrolls in a PEO environment
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including wage and hour laws
  • Manage payroll audits, reconciliations, quarter-end and year-end processes
  • Oversee tax compliance, funding processes, and compliance with NACHA and payroll funding requirements

Technical & Systems Expertise

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for PrismHR, including configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization
  • Manage payroll system integrations (time & labor, benefits, 401(k), general ledger, etc.)
  • Lead system enhancements, testing, and implementation of new features or workflows
  • Partner with internal and external technical resources to resolve complex system issues

Process Improvement & Strategy

  • Evaluate and continuously improve payroll processes, controls, and workflows
  • Standardize procedures and ensure proper documentation across all payroll functions
  • Identify automation opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce risk
  • Stay current on industry trends, compliance updates, and best practices

Client & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Support client escalations and complex payroll issues with a solutions-oriented approach
  • Partner with Implementation, Benefits, HR, and Finance teams to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Oversee onboarding of new clients from a payroll perspective, including setup, testing, and first payroll execution

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 7–10+ years of progressive payroll experience, including leadership responsibilities
  • Required: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • Required: Extensive experience in a PEO or multi-client payroll environment
  • Preferred: Strong hands-on experience with PrismHR
  • Deep knowledge of multi-state payroll taxation and compliance
  • Proven experience managing complex payroll operations and high-volume processing
  • Strong technical aptitude with payroll systems, integrations, and reporting

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
